Travis AFB Terminal
The USO moved to the building formerly known as The Zone after it closed the USO center in the base’s passenger terminal in December. The center was stationed at the terminal since 1984 to support military members and their families traveling through Travis. This new facility is located in the heart of Travis’ base housing, surrounded by homes, temporary quarters and base dorms, which will allow the USO and its programs to more easily connect with service members.
The center offers TVs, video game consoles, table tennis, pool, computer access, reading areas, a library and a snack bar “where they can come, relax and have a snack,” according to Castillo, who said the entire goal is to create “a home away from home” for service members. It will also offer programs such as United Through Reading, where service members away from their families can record themselves reading books, which will then be sent to their children.
Open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. all week.
